Overview of UPSC
The UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) selects candidates for the services, namely, the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the Indian Police Service (IPS), the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and the Indian Revenue Service (IRS).
To make it to any one of these services, a candidate has to go through the three stages of selection: Prelims, Mains, and Interview.
Preliminary Examination (Prelims) which tests the general knowledge of the candidate through objective screening.
Main Examination (Mains) which is a written stage and tests the depth of knowledge, analytical ability, and clarity of thought.
Personality Test (Interview) a stage in which the personality of the candidate is assessed, that is, aspects like confidence, honesty, leadership, and such traits are tested.

- General Studies I (200 marks, merit-based, decides cutoff).
- CSAT / General Studies II (200 marks, qualifying → need 33%).
